Hanging a photo wall that looks deliberate
One big print beats nine small ones, almost every time.
The one rule that matters
Hang the middle of the picture at eye level — around 145 to 150 cm from the floor for most rooms. Almost every wall that looks wrong is wrong for this reason alone: the pictures are too high because somebody hung them above the furniture instead of for the person standing there.
One big print, or a grid
A single large canvas on an empty wall looks like a decision. The same wall covered in nine small frames looks like a pile that got away from you. If you want several, make them a deliberate row or grid: equal gaps, aligned edges, same size.
Spacing, in numbers
Leave 5 to 8 cm between frames in a grid, and at least 20 cm of clear wall around the whole group so it reads as one thing rather than something squeezed into the corner. If you are hanging above furniture, leave 15 to 25 cm between the bottom edge and the top of the furniture.
Frames: cheaper than you think, and they change everything
The same photograph looks expensive in a frame and unfinished without one. Keep the frame colour consistent across a group — all black, or all natural wood — and let the photographs carry the variety. Our framed prints arrive ready to hang.
Lighting
Photographs are paper. Strong sunlight through glass fades them over years, so a wall that never takes direct sun will look better for longer. If the wall does catch the sun, that is a reason to choose a matte paper rather than a glossy one.
